Taylor Swift superfan 'charged over £2500' for Edinburgh Murrayfield tickets

A Taylor Swift superfan was in a state of panic after realising she was charged £599 per ticket for the Murrayfield show during the presale on Monday.

Canadian Cara Cattoni, 30, had her heart set on securing four tickets to see the star at Murrayfield Stadium in June next year - but was left shocked when she charged £2648.45 - including fees - on her order confirmation.

Cara believed she was buying four lower bowl tickets at for the total of £599 but her purchase resulted in her ordering four regular seated tickets at £599 each - totalling £2,396.

With Ticketmaster previously being criticised for their pricing system that boosts ticket prices based on demand, Cara is speculating whether the same system is being used by AXS.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Cara said: “I initially got into the queue and I had automatically been selected one standing ticket for me and I needed four so I went back and selected the number I needed.

“I didn’t see anything about £599 tickets or VIP packages at the time and I thought I was increasing the number of tickets which I believed were priced at around £110 per ticket.

"The initial one ticket in my cart was in fact lower bowl and I remember seeing the price of £182.50, and when I look it up on their pricing guide that's for lower bowl and similar to the tickets that I ended up paying triple the price for."

Cara has been left confused as to where the ticket price of £599 has come from.

A number of presale tickets available for Murrayfield were divided between two ticketing platforms - Ticketmaster and AXS.

Both ticketing companies were advertising front standing tickets, general admission standing tickets and seating tickets, with options for VIP packages as well.

The VIP packages for the Era’s tour were being sold for prices between £195 to £662. Due to those tickets being sold at a higher price compared to the regular standing and seating tickets, Cara thought she had made a mistake herself and ordered four VIP tickets.

She said: “When I was able to secure the tickets, I checked out really quickly because tickets sell out so fast.

“I went through the payment process, and I thought the number I was seeing, £599, was the amount for four, so I confirmed it.

“As soon as I got the confirmation email and saw the price breakdown and it showed £599 per ticket, I thought I had accidentally selected a VIP package so I started going through them to break down which one it gave me.

“Then I noticed on my ticket confirmation and breakdown that there was nothing that said VIP or listed any sort of package, so I started to dig a little deeper into it and I noticed on the price list on AXS website that there is no £599 ticket listed on their price list at all.”

Cara said she has tried to contact AXS but is left waiting on a live chat in order to speak to a member of the team.

Cara said: “When purchasing the tickets, I was just so panicked and and honestly, I am still so panicked and really don’t know what I am going to do.”

Presale tickets for London Wembley dates also went on sale on Monday with some fans taking to Twitter to voice their confusion around ticket prices too.

Other fans reported being charged £599 for one Wembley ticket also.

Lauren Emily stated on Twitter: “AXS thinks it’s okay to charge £599 for ONE seated ticket for the eras tour due to high demand, disgusting.”

Lauren Georgia replied: “This is what has happened to me! I selected the front left standing and got to the checkout with exactly the same as you have! I pressed purchase and didn’t notice until after I bought them! Trying to contact them to discuss but can’t get through.”

Annika Kruse also added: “That happened to me too and I paid the price out of fear that I might not get another show but it’s still just so unfair and wrong. I also released my tickets twice but every time I had two tickets in the checkout it was always for £599 each.”

Edinburgh Live has reached out to AXS for comment.
