Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film: release date comes a day early in the US

Pop legend Taylor Swift says the documentary film from her billion-dollar Eras concert tour will open in North American cinemas a day early due to demand.

In the announcement made by the singer on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, she wrote: “Look what you genuinely made me do,” on Wednesday. “Due to unprecedented demand we’re opening up early access showings of The Eras Tour Concert Film on THURSDAY in America and Canada!! As in… TOMORROW.”

Tweets from fans flooded in as they responded with their excitement. One user said, “I’m gonna start crying, it’s 2 am and I’m emotional.”

Another user speculated about the film potentially revealing something: “Why do I feel like this means there’s some kind of big reveal/announcement now in the movie now”.

But others weren’t best pleased, as they had already bought tickets for Friday, which is now no longer “opening night”.

The movie, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, was originally only planned to be released in North America, but it was later announced that it would be screened worldwide, including the UK.

In fact, it took less than 24 hours for the film to break AMC’s US record for the highest ticket sales revenue during a single day in its 103-year history.

The concert film will be screened at major cinema chains in the UK, such as Odeon and Vue, as well as independent cinemas.

It will be a whopping two hours and 45 minutes, though the film’s running time is shorter than Swift’s Eras concert, which takes in 44 songs and is more than three hours long.

Toby Bradon, general manager for Vue UK and Ireland, said: “While summer was all about the ‘Barbenheimer’ phenomenon, it looks as if autumn is set to be dominated by Taylor-mania — and we couldn’t be happier.

“It’s been brilliant to see the growing buzz since Taylor Swift’s announcement just last month and we’re thrilled to call Vue the home of the Eras Tour, with venues up and down the country holding multi-screenings of what is set to be one of the biggest events of the year.”

AMC is also distributing the movie of Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour, which is set to be released in December. The singer is set to receive more than 50 per cent of box office grosses.
