Taylor Swift fans warned of targeted concert ticket scam through Facebook reseller group

Taylor Swift fans who are desperate to get concert tickets for The Eras Tour are being warned not to fall foul of a targeted scam.

It comes after one fan was conned out of $300 after she responded to what she thought was a genuine ticket seller on Facebook.

Police are now warning Taylor Swift fans, known as Swifties, to take extra care when trying to get a ticket for the artist's ongoing concert tour.

Stafford County Sheriff's Office says the scam victim was conned out of hundreds of dollars after she paid for the tickets in a Facebook resellers group.

Police have said the Swiftie paid $300 through a cash app but the seller failed to provide the tickets.

The scam victim has said she was unable to reverse the transaction.

It's not the first time Swifties have been targeted.

One woman, from Anderson, Texas had been trying to find tickets for Taylor's Houston shows for her daughter's 15th birthday.

Liliana Macias found tickets for $300 on sale on Facebook and messaged the seller, who she exchanged information and photographs with.

"She sent a picture with the tickets," Macias told Fox26.

"You never think the other people are going to be bad."

Macias says she sent the seller $300 via Cash App for one of the tickets.

However, the seller never shared the ticket’s barcode information.

As Macias demanded the barcode and information on the second ticket, or a refund, the seller disappeared.

"It’s so frustrating because I want to give [my daughter] everything," said Macias.

"If it’s her dream, I’m going to fight for that. I worked so hard for them. [The scammers] don’t know how hard you work to get money."

The Federal Trade Commission has said scammers often tell victims to pay in a specific way, in the above cases, via the Cash App, and some will send victims a check when tell them to deposit it and send them money.

Scammers also want their victims to act before they have time to think and will often target products that are in high demand.

Mirror Online has approached Cash App for comment.

Tickets for Taylor's Swift The Era's tour quickly sold out following unprecedented demand when she announced the show last year, with 3.5million people trying to register their interest on Ticketmaster's pre-sale program.

Although the platform's website crashed immediately after the pre-sale commenced, over 2.4 million tickets to the tour were sold on November 15, 2022.

The ‘Eras Tour’, which Taylor describes as a "journey through all of her musical eras", continues across the US throughout the summer.

Shows have lasted for over three hours and the set lists consists of 44 songs divided into ten acts. Swift has also been joined by some very special guests on the tour which have so far included Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers, Aaron Dessner and more.
