Taylor Swift fans share clever Midnights album theory after spotting sneaky clock detail

Taylor Swift has just left her fans feeling like their Christmases and birthdays have all come at once after she made a surprise appearance at the MTV VMA awards, winning three Moonman statues - including Video of the Year and Best Direction for the 10-minute version of All Too Well. If that weren't enough, she also made history by becoming the first artist to win best video three times at the VMAs and in her acceptance speech announced her upcoming tenth album.

The 32-year-old American singer let everyone know that her next album would be called Midnights and it's set to be released on October 21. In a post on Instagram, she later explained how the album will feature "the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life". As you might expect, Swift's fans wasted no time looking for Easter eggs and clues about the album in her previous social media posts, interviews and her other music - and they've come up with a clever theory.

People quickly noticed that following the album announcement, the artwork on Taylor Swift's music on Spotify was replaced with an animation of a clock ticking round to midnight, as well as various lyrics from her previous work about midnight and being unable to sleep.

Taking a closer look at the image, one fan @lawsofnatchure noticed that the numbers on the clock face are all different colours and they shared what they think this could mean.

They said: "My dumb theory: she said that the songs were written at different times in her life.

"Each colour represents an era. Green for debut, blue for 1989, red for Red, yellow for Fearless.

"Corresponding numbers are songs written from specific era, track 1 & 2 from 1989 era."

In a follow-up tweet, they added: "Track 3 from between 1989 and Red era. Track 4 and 5 from Red era. Track 6 from in between Red and Fearless era. Track 7 and 8 from Fearless era. track 9 from between Fearless and debut era. Track 10 and 11 from debut era, and track 12 and 13 from now."

They then asked fellow users what they thought of the theory - and some were quick to brand it 'genius'.

One person replied: "Genius that's what you are."

Another said they would be "bookmarking this" to check back later when the album comes out.

Someone else added to the theory, pointing out: "The green one can also be a black colour for reputation but still the colours can represent her eras."
