Taylor Swift fans accuse Dublin hotels of price gouging after bookings cancelled for 'no reason'

A Dublin hotel has been accused of price gouging after multiple people claimed bookings they made for Taylor Swift's upcoming Dublin show were cancelled for no reason.

The pop sensation, whose concert tickets can range in the hundreds, is headed to Ireland as part of her Eras tour in 2024 and accommodation in the capital is astronomically priced for the two nights.

In one instance, a two-bed apartment in west Dublin was found to be for rent for over €20,000 for the weekend of Taylor Swift’s concerts in the city next year.

On Sunday, multiple people who had booked accommodation in Dublin for the I Knew You Were Trouble singer’s shows took to Twitter to post about having their booking cancelled by their hotel for “no reason”.

One person posted: “I booked a hotel within five minutes of Taylor Swift announcing her tour dates in Dublin in June 2024 and hotel prices tripled an hour later.

“The hotel has now cancelled my booking, with no reason. Irish hotels are out of control, price gouging - so frustrating.”

Many people flocked to the comments to state that the same thing happened to them.

One person commented: “The same thing has happened to me.

“I just got an email today saying ‘Booking cancelled due to internal reason’ and they found me ‘alternative accommodation’ 14.2km away from the city centre. How is this allowed?!”

While another wrote: “Same thing happened to me, got a message from booking.com earlier today and they had the cheek to say they weren’t gonna charge me for the cancellation.”

Another person posted: “Exact same thing happened to me - I’m sure it’s the same hotel too.”

In a separate post, alongside a screenshot of their booking being cancelled, one person wrote: “Two cancellations due to overbooking for two separate bookings for temple bar Dublin next June. You apologise and call me a valued customer? I sense greed at the root of this.”
