Taylor Swift has sensationally hit back at Damon Albarn 's claims she doesn't write her own award-winning songs.
The Shake It Off hitmaker, 32, told the Blur singer, 53, his "hot take" is "completely false and SO damaging" on Monday night - making the founder of virtual band Gorillaz very aware of the fact she does indeed write her music.
After revealing she had previously been a fan of the British musician's work, Taylor also added that it was "f***ed up" that the Park Life singer would try and discredit her artistry.
The comments come after a new interview with Damon was promoted via the Los Angeles Times Twitter account earlier in the evening.
The teaser tweet - which Taylor went on to reference - read: "Albarn also spills his thoughts on some of today's chart-topping music artists. Billie Eilish? 'I think she’s exceptional'. Taylor Swift? 'She doesn’t write her own songs'."
Just over an hour after the extract was shared on the social media platform, Grammy award-winning artist Taylor set the record straight.
Tagging Damon's verified Twitter account, the singer-songwriter directly told the rocker: "I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging.
"You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really f***ed up to try and discredit my writing. WOW."
She then sarcastically followed up with a second savage tweet, writing: "PS I wrote this tweet all by myself in case you were wondering."
Damon responded to Taylor shortly after her initial tweet - apologising for his comments and claiming they had been posted out of context.
"I totally agree with you. i had a conversation about songwriting and sadly it was reduced to clickbait," he replied to the star on Monday night.
"I apologise unreservedly and unconditionally. The last thing I would want to do is discredit your songwriting. I hope you understand. - Damon."
In his interview with the Los Angeles Times, Damon claimed he "wasn't hating on anyone" when claiming Taylor doesn't write her own lyrics.
After making the initial claim, the interviewer responded with: "Of course she does. Co-writes some of them."
"That doesn’t count," the Blur frontman hit back with.
"I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing. I’m not hating on anybody, I’m just saying there’s a big difference between a songwriter and a songwriter who co-writes."
He continued: "Doesn’t mean that the outcome can’t be really great. And some of the greatest singers — I mean, Ella Fitzgerald never wrote a song in her life.
"When I sing, I have to close my eyes and just be in there. I suppose I’m a traditionalist in that sense."
Following Taylor's response to the comments via Twitter, many famous faces weighed in on the debate - included Jedward.
"Will go to his show tonight with a Taylor Swift poster his solo album is a complete Blur and should be titled full of skips," the Irish twins told the singer on Monday night.
