Taylor Swift and NBA playoff finals 'curse' as conspiracy theory emerges

A theory about the NBA Playoffs involving music superstar Taylor Swift has emerged online.

The Conference Finals are currently taking place in both the Eastern and Western Conferences. The winners of each series will book their places in next month’s NBA Finals, but there is still a long way to go.

The Denver Nuggets are currently holding a 3-0 lead over the Los Angeles Lakers after the opening three games in the Western Conference, and have the chance to make it a sweep in Game Four. In the Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat lead 2-0 against the Boston Celtics going into Game Three on Sunday night.

While it appears that the Nuggets and the Heat are setting themselves up for an NBA Finals match-up, a theory has emerged online over a trend that has happened over the course of the playoffs. The idea comes from a NBA fan who posted his musings on Reddit.

The global music superstar is currently touring the United States for the Eras Tour, promoting her new album, Speak Now. And the post explains how the tour schedule coincides with how the NBA playoffs have gone so far.

Swift’s tour schedule seemingly coincides with whoever recently loses in the NBA playoffs. After the Atlanta Hawks lost to the Celtics in the first round, Swift played three shows at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium a few mere days afterwards, with the first show even taking place the same day as the deciding Game Six last month.

Next comes the Eastern Conference semi-final between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Celtics. On the same day as the Game Seven match which saw the Celtics claim a 4-3 victory, Swift played the last of three shows in Philadelphia at the Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles.

The post concludes by speculating what could happen next in the NBA playoffs based on where Swift’s tour is currently located. Sunday night sees Swift play a third show at the Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, in Boston.

That concert is on the same day as the Celtics’ game Three game against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. Even though all of the results and tour dates are pure speculation, the Celtics will hope that things go much differently this time around.

Game Two of the Series saw the Celtics lose 111-105 to the Heat. Jayson Tatum scored 34 points but to no avail, but has now got 430 points to his name in the 15 post-season games that he's played with an average of 28.7.

However, it’s Heat forward Jimmy Butler that has the better of Tatum so far. He has 373 points over the 12 post-season games he’s played this season, but has a better average of 31.1 points-per-game.
