Taylor Heinicke posts ‘thank you’ message to Washington

The Washington Commanders had hoped to retain quarterback Taylor Heinicke — at their price.

While Heinicke would have liked to return to Washington, he wisely chose to see what was available to him on the open market. And that strategy paid off for Heinicke, who received a two-year contract worth up to $20 million from the Atlanta Falcons.

The best part for Heinicke, he’s from the Atlanta area and will be returning home. He will not start for the Falcons, as Atlanta is building around second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder. It’s the same role Heinicke would’ve had in Washington, backing up another second-year QB in Sam Howell.

Once news had broke he was heading to Atlanta, Heinicke took to Instagram to thank Washington for everything.

Wanted to take a moment and say THANK YOU to Washington! The love and support has been unmatched the last couple years. The memories I’ll cherish forever. You gave me a second chance and it’s forever changed my life.

Thank you all! ❤️

Regardless of what you thought of Heinicke’s viability as a quarterback, he gave the organization everything he had, and, for most fans, he’ll forever be respected for his time wearing the burgundy and gold.
