Taylor Fritz And Jessica Pegula Rise In ATP Rankings

Aryna Sabalenka, of Belarus, and Jessica Pegula, of the United States, wait for the start of the trophy ceremony after Sabalenka won the women's singles final of the U.S. Open tennis championships, Sa

Following the conclusion of the U.S. Open, the latest ATP and WTA rankings have seen significant shifts among the top players in the world of tennis. Men's runner-up Taylor Fritz made a strong return to the top 10, securing the No. 7 spot in the ATP rankings. On the women's side, Jessica Pegula, the runner-up, climbed to an impressive No. 3 in the WTA list, while semifinalist Emma Navarro achieved a career-best ranking of No. 8.

Men's champion Jannik Sinner maintained his dominance at the top of the ATP rankings as the No. 1 player, extending his lead after a convincing victory over Fritz in the final. Meanwhile, women's champion Aryna Sabalenka held onto the No. 2 spot in the WTA rankings, trailing behind Iga Swiatek, who was defeated by Pegula in the quarterfinals.

Sabalenka expressed her focus on personal improvement rather than rankings, emphasizing her desire to continue playing her best tennis to reclaim the top spot. The Belarusian player briefly held the No. 1 ranking last year after finishing as the runner-up at the U.S. Open. Sabalenka is the only woman to have won more than one Grand Slam title in 2024, having triumphed at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Notable changes in the rankings included last year's champions at Flushing Meadows, with Coco Gauff dropping to No. 6 after being eliminated in the fourth round and Novak Djokovic sliding to No. 4 following his third-round defeat. Alexander Zverev rose to the No. 2 spot in the men's rankings, with Carlos Alcaraz at No. 3 and Daniil Medvedev at No. 5.

Among the women, Elena Rybakina and Jasmine Paolini maintained their rankings at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen remained at No. 7, while Navarro's impressive performance propelled her to No. 8, marking her best showing at a major tournament.

Additionally, British player Jack Draper achieved a career-best ranking of No. 20 after reaching his first Slam semifinal. The latest rankings reflect the dynamic nature of professional tennis, with emerging talents and seasoned champions vying for the top positions in the sport.
