PUNE: Ramkumar Ramanathan and Mukund Sasikumar squandered chances of varying degrees as they bowed out of the Tata Open Maharashtraat the Balewadi stadium here on Tuesday.
Ramkumar, having qualified for the main draw in a strong fashion, seemed well on his way to extend his run for the better half of the match but failed to sustain the momentum in a 6-3, 5-7, 3-6 loss to Pedro Martinez of Spain in two hours and 26 minutes.
Mukund, a wildcard entrant, too put himself in positions of strength in both the sets but lacked the conviction to assert himself in a 4-6, 5-7 defeat to Italian Flavio Cobolli, the result bringing the curtains down on the Indian campaign in singles in the ATP 250 event.
"It is more about how you handle your emotions in these kind of matches," Mukund said later.
