An Indian takeaway in Ayrshire has cooked up yet another success story – after coming out on top in the 2022 Scottish Curry Awards.
The Curry Leaf, in Ayr’s Wills Road, swept to victory in the best takeaway and home delivery of the year category during Monday night’s awards bash in Glasgow.
It’s the latest in a long line of awards for the family-owned business after the Curry Leaf won the Good Food Awards in 2019, 2020 and was also voted top takeaway in the 2019 Scottish Curry Awards.
Proprietor Rajinder Kaur, who runs the business with husband Karamjeet, said she was “over the moon” at this latest accolade.
Rajinder, 33, said: “We feel very privileged and proud to bring this award back to Ayr again.
“The past few years have been difficult with Covid and other things, but we are immensely proud to have come so far. This wouldn’t be possible without our customers’ love and support. We are so happy!
“A big thank you to everyone for making us Number One takeaway in the whole of Scotland!”
Since opening in 2017, the Curry Leaf has grown in popularity with Rajinder’s mum, Kashmir, overseeing the operation and husband Karamjeet cooking up delicious meals in the kitchen.
The takeaway boasts some exquisite dishes. Currently topping the taste charts are their South Indian, butter masala and chasni ranges.
However, the owners have expanded their offering to include some truly mouthwatering Egyptian-style chicken manchurian kebabs, chicken curry burritos and a wide range of sensational pizza fries, which are all taking the town by storm.
To win a Scottish curry award, entrants must reach several industry benchmarks such as producing a tasty takeaway, have a great food hygiene score, a high ranking against competitors and consistently positive customer feedback.
The takeaway team has also forged some strong community links during the Covid pandemic and helped under-privileged children back in India.
Rajinder revealed: “During Covid, we provided 250 meals for Ayr Hospital and every year we donate books to a girls' school in India. We also donated essential daily-use items to the Society For The Care Of The Blind in India too. We always try to help where we can and when we can.
“We definitely have the best support system behind us and wouldn’t be where we are today without our customers, friends and our whole Curry Leaf team.”
Sadly, Rajinder lost her beloved father, Mohinder, since their last awards success, so she is dedicating this latest one in his memory.
She added: “He would be very happy with the news of our award.”
The 2022 Scottish Curry Awards were organised by Oceanic Consulting.
Irfan Younis, CEO of Oceanic Consulting, said: “We were honoured and delighted to have such great finalists and winners representing the Scottish curry industry and enhancing its reputation nationally and internationally. Congratulations to all finalists and winners!”
