Love Island couple Tasha Ghouri and Andrew Le Page are thrilled that Maya Jama is taking over from Laura Whitmore, the new host of the ITV show.

Former BBC Radio 1 presenter Maya was announced as the presenter earlier this week and has already got the thumbs up from the former Islanders.

Former estate agent Andrew, 27, said at the National Television Awards: “I think she’s great.

"She’s obviously very good at her field and she knows what she’s doing so I think she’ll be perfect for it if I’m honest."

Tasha, 23, added to the Mirror: “I think she’ll be great.”

When asked what Whitmore was like, she replied: “She was great, I mean we didn’t see her much…”

Andrew chimed in: “She came into the villa like three times, so it wasn’t like we could have a chit chat with her but… she was very nice..."

Whitmore, who replaced the late Caroline Flack on the series, faced ongoing criticism from viewers on social media about her presenting style, which many called flat.

Fans also questioned why she was needed on the daily show because she was only featured on average once a week.

Whitmore admitted she found the format “difficult” as she announced her decision to step down from the coveted role.

In a statement released in August, she said: “Some news! I won’t be hosting the next series of Love island. [sic]

“There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed due to the format, including the flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.

“I wish it was still possible, but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series.

“I hope I did you proud Caroline," she concluded her message with a tribute to the host, who died at age 40 in 2020.

Love Island confirmed the news on Instagram on Wednesday that Jama will be on board, with the caption: “Okay, the rumours are true. Say hey to your brand-new #LoveIsland host @mayajama."

The announcement was widely met with praise from viewers.
