Tasmania has recorded an additional coronavirus death, with the state's daily case figure rising to 637.
The 84-year-old woman, who had COVID pneumonia and several co-morbidities, lived in a southern aged care home, Premier Peter Gutwein said on Thursday.
Her death takes the state's virus toll to 23, with 10 of those occurring since borders reopened in mid-December.
The fresh infections are an increase on Wednesday's figure of 574 and the highest since February 3.
There are 11 people being treated for COVID-19 in hospital, with one case in intensive care. Six positive cases are in hospital for unrelated medical conditions.
There are 3235 reported active cases, a marginal increase on the 3214 recorded 24 hours earlier.
Health officials have warned of a rise in cases after some 60,000 public school students returned to the classroom on Wednesday.
Mr Gutwein said 98.7 per cent of teachers had provided proof of vaccination as required under an education department jab mandate.
He said the government would continue to "proactively work" with the remaining 71 teachers who had yet to provide documentation.
Mr Gutwein said there was a 94.1 per cent student attendance rate on day one, above the yearly average of 89-90 per cent.
Tasmania recorded two COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday, both men aged in their 60s.
