Micheal Martin has shares some adorable snaps of the moment he was greeted by President Michael D Higgins' dogs Bród and Misneach today.
The two Bernese Mountain dogs met the Taoiseach at the steps of Áras an Uachtaráin on Monday as he arrived to conduct official state business with the President, appointing new judges.
Mr Martin was keen to interact with the lovable canines and crouched down to pet them with open arms.
Bród, the older of the dogs, is ten years old and Misneach, is just a year old. The arrival of Misneach to the Áras came during last year's lockdown and months after the death of the President's beloved Bernese Mountain dog Sioda, who passed away in September 2020 following a short illness.
The dogs have greeted their share of officials and dignitaries over the years including French President Emmanual Macron, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Taking to Twitter to share the lovely moment, Mr Martin wrote: "Lovely greeting by Misneach and Bród when I visited @PresidentIRL at the Áras today for some judicial appointments."
People took the opportunity to poke fun about the dogs' roles in the judicial appointments with one man joking: "They'll make fine additions to the High Court."
Another person wrote: "I, for one, support dogs as judges; if a dog doesn't like you, then you must be guilty!"
