Tanner Holden transferring back to Wright State

I have to admit, this one is rare.

After transferring from Wright State to Ohio State during the offseason last year, former Buckeye guard Tanner Holden is headed back to the Raiders to finish out his last season of college eligibility.

The Wheelersburg, Ohio, native played his first three years at Wright State where he was a star in the Horizon League. He averaged 16.1 points and 6.9 rebounds from 2019-2021, but couldn’t quite carve out a niche in a Scarlet and Gray uniform, with his playing time diminishing as the season wore on.

Holden appeared in 27 games for Ohio State but averaged just 3.6 points in 13.6 minutes per contest. He is most well-known for his winning, buzzer-beater against Rutgers early on in the Big Ten slate. Unfortunately for OSU, that was one of the high points of the season, and for Holden as the Buckeyes limped to a 13th place finish in the regular season conference race.

An offer for Buckeyes fans

It was enough to have Holden reconsider his role with the team, resulting in his entrance into the transfer portal back in April.

Now Holden will be looking to recreate the magic he had in a Raiders uniform for one last ride, and we wish him nothing but the very best.

The Ohio State basketball roster seems to be complete now heading into the offseason, but as further news develops we’ll continue to stay on top of it.
