Tanguy Ndombele praise, Lo Celso impresses, Pape Matar Sarr returns in Tottenham loan latest

Tottenham Hotspur's large group of loan players has grown even more after the closure of the January transfer window.

Goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman headed back to Sweden last week for another loan spell with Degerfors. The 23-year-old helped the club stay in the Swedish top flight last season.

He will play friendlies and enjoy a pre-season before this year's Allsvenskan campaign begins on April 9.

Spurs have ten other players out on loan, including some big names after a busy transfer deadline day last month.

So how exactly did the loanees get on the past week, both for their clubs or internationally? football.london takes a look at all of Tottenham's loan players.

Tanguy Ndombele (Lyon)

Ndombele gained plenty of praise for his performance in Lyon's 2-0 win against Nice on Saturday in Ligue 1.

The Frenchman grabbed an assist for Karl Toko Ekambi's second half goal during a busy 90-minute performance.

The notoriously tough markers of French media outlet L'Equipe handed him an eight in their player ratings from the match.

After the game Ndombele said: "It went well, I'm happy with the three points. I'm trying to find my bearings as quickly as possible even if I don't have too much time, but that's fine, I know this house a little.

"I hope this bodes well for the future. It's getting better and better, it's true that the team has changed since I left, but I know my partners better.

"They are very good players, so I hope the adaptation will go even faster. I was very happy to return to the stadium, to see the welcome from the supporters.

"I feel good with Maxence (Caqueret), he is a very good player, we manage to play well together. Sometimes he goes up, sometimes I go up.

"There is no problem with the coach, we are all with him, we try to be together and not to listen to what is said outside."

Bryan Gil (Valencia)

Gil has been getting praise aplenty for his performances since returning to Spain for a six-month loan at Valencia.

The talented 21-year-old midfielder is certainly racking up some much-needed minutes to progress his development.

On Thursday night he got 84 minutes under his belt as Valencia drew 1-1 at Athletic Bilbao in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.

Then on Sunday, Gil was given a rest only to come off the bench in a triple Valencia change at half-time with Alaves leading 1-0.

However, it was a tale of two penalties as the home side still won the game 2-1.

Giovani Lo Celso (Villarreal)

Lo Celso made his full Villarreal debut on Saturday with 87 minutes to his name in the 0-0 draw at home against Real Madrid.

WhoScored rated the Argentine as Villarreal's best outfield player on the day, with three shots on goal, one on target plus two key passes and a pass success rate of 84.9 per cent.

Lo Celso was playing as a support striker in what was essentially a 4-4-2 formation for the hosts.

This Saturday Villarreal travel to Granada before in midweek welcoming Juventus in the Champions League knockout stages.

Pape Matar Sarr (Metz)

Tottenham's summer signing Sarr returned to Metz a champion after Senegal won their first ever Africa Cup of Nations.

The 19-year-old came off the bench for the final 24 minutes of the 2-1 home defeat to Marseille.

Sarr, who has played in a variety of midfield roles this campaign, has found himself in and out of the Metz starting line-up since October.

The youngster has one goal and one assist from his 20 appearances for Metz this term and he will be looking to get plenty of experience under his belt before making the move to north London in the summer.

Cameron Carter-Vickers (Celtic)

Carter-Vickers has enjoyed one of the best loans for Spurs this season and the 24-year-old has been a near ever-present for Celtic since making the move across the border on the summer transfer window's deadline day.

He has made 30 appearances for the Scottish giants since then, scoring twice and laying on one assist, as well as playing European football.

In the past week, the USA international played the full 90 minutes in midweek as Celtic won 3-2 at Aberdeen in the league.

Then on Sunday, he played 74 minutes as the Glasgow side won 4-0 at home against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup.

The Scottish Daily Express gave the centre-back a six in their player ratings, with the review: "Could be considered lucky not to concede penalty after a handball early on. Saw out the rest of the game calmly before being replaced by Jullien."

The same newspaper gave him a seven in the Aberdeen match with the write-up: "A deterrent to any Aberdeen threat in the first half, and headed away many dangerous crosses."

Celtic have an option to purchase Carter-Vickers at the end of his loan spell.

Carter-Vickers might not have represented the USA since 2019 but his performances have come to the attention of those across the Atlantic.

"We are definitely monitoring Cameron," Berhalter told Record Sport. "We have a lot of competition at the centre back position, but we think he is performing well and he is definitely on our radar."

Jack Clarke (Sunderland)

Clarke has got his first two starts under his belt for Sunderland in the past week.

The 21-year-old played 81 minutes on the left wing in the 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham in midweek, coming up against Spurs team-mate Kion Etete.

Then on Saturday he played 62 minutes of the 1-1 draw at AFC Wimbledon on the right wing.

Clarke worked hard but was unable to help Sunderland find a way through on the day.

Chronicle Live handed him a six in their player ratings with the review: "Tried to make things happen, but nothing came off."

Troy Parrott (MK Dons)

Parrott continues to be an ever-present for MK Dons with two more 90 minute stints in the past week.

The Republic of Ireland international, who turned 20 this month, played on the right during the midweek 1-1 draw at Fleetwood Town.

He then played the full game up front on Saturday in the 0-0 draw at home against Ipswich, who he spent a spell on loan at last season.

In the MK Citizen's player ratings, Parrott received a seven.

"A regular sight for the Irishman was him being surrounded by Ipswich players. Excellent work-rate without much to write home about otherwise," they wrote.

The young striker has four goals and five assists from his 31 appearances in all competitions for the League One outfit so far this season.

Nile John (Charlton Athletic)

The 18-year-old Spurs academy midfielder is yet to make his senior debut for League One Charlton after his January move.

However, he did get on the bench for the 2-1 defeat at Wigan on Saturday.

"I’m over the moon,” John told the club's website after joining last month. "It’s my first loan and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m really roaring to get out there and play for the fans and play for the badge.

"I will have to adapt to the different league; it's not really what I am used to but I’ll work for the team, for the badge and for the fans. It’s a process that I am going to put my all into, a period where it is going to help me develop by just putting in the work to be better for the team."

He added: "I do believe this is a place where I can grow. It’s a place where I am able to showcase my talents. With the likes of Conor Gallagher and his pathway, I believe it is something I can live up to and achieve with the support of the staff, my family and the players. It is something I am really going to put in the work towards.

"I’ve had a few conversations with Johnnie [Jackson] and he's quite clear with how he wants the team to play. It’s just about me fitting in as best as possible.

"I’m an attacking midfielder. I like to bring goals, assists and some excitement in the middle of the pitch. I am hardworking. I will give my all when I am wearing this shirt, I am proud to wear it as well. I am really looking forward to hearing from a new set of fans."

Kion Etete (Cheltenham Town)

Etete continues to impress during his step up to League One with Cheltenham Town.

The 20-year-old grabbed an assist in the midweek 2-1 victory against Sunderland, coming up against Jack Clarke.

Then on Saturday, he got another 90 minutes up front as Cheltenham won 2-0 at home against Fleetwood Town.

He has impressed Town boss Michael Duff, who said on Saturday after the game: "Kion has come in and he's been excellent."

Etete scored six goals and contributed two assists in his 23 matches for Northampton before picking up an injury just as he was really finding his groove and then being recalled by Spurs.

Now the big striker has got two assists in five games for Cheltenham.

Kacper Kurylowicz (Potters Bar Town)

The goalkeeper has headed out on loan to non-league side Potters Bar Town, who play in the Isthmian Premier League.

The 20-year-old was on the bench as they won 1-0 against Haringey Borough on Saturday.
