Life as a professional baseball can be pretty rough. Sure, they make really good money playing a game but hitters fail way more often than they succeed each time they step in the batter’s box, and that has to wear on you a bit.
Sometimes things can get really bad/embarrassing for them when they’re at the plate, too. Take what happened last night in Anaheim, for instance. Tampa catcher Francisco Mejia not only struck out swinging during his at-bat in the seventh inning but he also got hit by the pitch.
I’m serious, that actually happened. Mejia swung early on a curveball and then got hit by said curveball. He was ruled out because he swung first and had to walk back to the dugout and not make eye contact with his teammates.

Not great!
The call by the announcers was pretty great, though. The goal definitely is to have no whammies. You want no whammies. None. Absolutely zero whammies.
