As Hurricane Milton approaches, Tampa Fire Rescue Chief Barbara Tripp is urging residents to take necessary precautions and evacuate if needed. Tripp, a Florida native, expressed concern over the magnitude of the storm, emphasizing the importance of preparedness.

Tripp emphasized that once the storm reaches maximum sustained winds, emergency responders may not be able to assist those who chose not to evacuate. She stressed the need for cooperation from residents to ensure their safety.

Residents with medical conditions were advised to seek shelter, with Tripp assuring that fire crews are ready to provide assistance once conditions permit. Additional support is being provided at Tampa General Hospital, which remains operational during the storm.

Tampa General Hospital has taken proactive measures by installing an AquaFence to protect against storm surges and high winds. The AquaFence technology, previously utilized during Hurricane Helene, is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions.

Tripp commended the effectiveness of the AquaFence and highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of the hospital and its occupants. Collaboration between emergency responders and healthcare facilities is crucial in mitigating the impact of severe weather events.
