Tammy Abraham refuses to close door on Arsenal transfer - "See what the future holds”

Roma striker Tammy Abraham has left the door open for a potential summer transfer move after a stellar debut season in Serie A.

Abraham, who joined the Italian giants last summer from Chelsea for £34million, ended his league season on Friday night with two goals for Jose Mourinho ’s side in their 3-0 win away at Torino. That win has secured a place in next season’s Europa League, and Abraham’s goals saw him end the Serie A campaign on 17 goals, setting a new record for an English player in Italy’s top-flight.

The former Blues academy product has been heavily linked with transfer interest from Arsenal in recent months and would bring Abraham back to England, having spent the duration of his career there prior to a move to Italy last summer.

Following his final game of the league season, Abraham was asked as to whether or not he will be playing his football at the Stadio Olimpico next season. Abraham said that Roma has his heart, but admits that he is not ruling out a potential exit this summer ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar later this year.

“I love this club,” Abraham told DAZN (as published by Football Italia ). "They’ve given me the opportunity to show myself, my heart is here. We’ll see what the future holds, but my heart is here.”

While the league campaign in Italy is now over for Abraham, boss Mourinho and the rest of the Roma squad, they still have a major final to play in against Dutch side Feyenoord. The two play out the first ever Europa Conference League final on Wednesday night inside the Air Albania Stadium in Tirania, Albania.

Abraham is targeting gold in the competition to mark the end of a campaign where he has scored 27 goals in 52 appearances across all fronts, having been a part of the Chelsea squad who last season won the Champions League.

“This is a dream come true for Roma fans, for the club,” Abraham added. “We’ve made it to the Final, now we have to rest and recover well, so hopefully we’ll be celebrating on Wednesday night.”

Arsenal, who Abraham has been linked with, are set to be playing in the Europa League alongside Roma next season. They could still qualify for the Champions League on the final day of the Premier League campaign, but to do so they have to beat Crystal Palace and hope that Tottenham Hotspur lose away at Norwich City, who have already been relegated.

Abraham’s record of 17 goals in a Serie A season breaks a 60-year record of the most league goals scored by an Englishmen in Italy’s top-flight. The record was previously held by former Aston Villa forward Gerry Hitchens, who scored 16 league goals in the 1961/62 campaign during his only full season at Inter Milan.

Roma signed Abraham on a five-year contract which means that any potential transfer exit and move for the English international would cost clubs a fee significantly higher than what the Italian side paid for him from Chelsea last summer.

Prior to his exit, Abraham netted 21 times in 58 Premier League appearances for Chelsea and was their top scorer during his only full senior Stamford Bridge in the 2019/20 term under Frank Lampard.
