It was a busy summer transfer window that saw the departure of academy graduate Tammy Abraham to unite with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho in Serie A.
The same window witnessed the return of Romelu Lukaku which has been turbulent to say the least, whilst Abraham has netted 17 goals in 32 games for Roma so far this season.
The Englishman has opened up on his desire to explore a new league and ingratiate himself into a new culture which, in turn, proved pivotal in his move to the eternal city.
In an interview with Pro:Direct Soccer on Youtube, the 24-year-old opened up on his Chelsea exit.
“I got to the point that I needed to leave and explore”.
“All I knew was Chelsea. It’s nice to explore, learn a different culture, and a different language. It’s different, but I am enjoying it”.
For Tammy Abraham, enjoying life away from the constant scrutiny inherent in any discussion about Premier League players was needed to rediscover his style and build his confidence.
Abraham has, thus far, claimed 20 G/A’s in just under 2000 minute of league and cup football this season. As Chelsea’s attack is still yet to find a consistent run of form, the sale of Tammy Abraham looks even more questionable.
There is no doubt that Tammy has plenty to work on in his game, he is far from the polished item. Yet, there is a bundle of potential there slowly unravelling and a few more seasons in Italy could help transform him into one of Europe’s hottest strikers.
Abraham is now one of many English talents plying their trade in Europe. Seemingly, a step away from the shores of England has been greatly beneficial to the vast majority of players willing to take that step.
There is no doubt that others will follow in his footsteps. The question that remains is, will he ever return to the Premier League? Only time will tell.
