Excitement is building as the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon approaches, with defending champions Tamirat Tola and Hellen Obiri confirmed to participate in the prestigious event.

Tamirat Tola, the Ethiopian athlete, who clinched victory in the Men's division last year, is gearing up to defend his title after setting a course record in the previous edition. Tola, fresh off his first-ever Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics Marathon, is eager to replicate his success in New York City. His impressive performance at the Paris Olympics, where he set an Olympic record, has positioned him as a strong contender for the upcoming marathon.

Despite his stellar track record, Tola will face stiff competition from notable athletes such as Bashir Abdi from Belgium, who secured a silver medal at the Paris Olympics. Past winners like Evans Chebet and Albert Korir will also be vying for the top spot, promising an intense battle for the title.

In the women's event, Kenyan champion Hellen Obiri will be looking to defend her crown after a series of remarkable victories, including a win at the Boston Marathon and the New York Marathon last year. Obiri, a two-time Olympic silver medalist, has been in top form, culminating in her recent triumph at the Boston Marathon.

Joining Obiri in the women's lineup is Sharon Lokedi, the 2022 marathon champion, and Dakotah Lindwurm from the U.S.A., who is set to make her mark in the season's final major event.

With a star-studded lineup and fierce competition expected in both the men's and women's divisions, the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon promises to be a thrilling spectacle for fans and athletes alike.
