Tamil Nadu: Traffic cops to enforce helmet, seat belt rule

COIMBATORE: The city traffic police on Saturday urged petrol pump employees to make sure that customers wear seat belt and helmet before filling fuel.

More than 100 representatives of petrol pumps in Coimbatore city attended a meeting conducted by deputy commissioner of police N Mathivanan at the police community hall at Upplilipalayam. “We want motorists to use helmet and seat belt for their own safety. But some of them refuse to use the safety gear. Employees of pumps should insist that they wear helmet and use seat belt before filling fuel,” he said.

The officer requested petrol pump owners to give access to CCTV footage at the facilities to find rule breakers.

“Traffic cops will record registration number of vehicles and send challan to motorists who are found without helmet and not using seat belt,” he added.
