VELLORE: A teacher of a government school, who was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a Class VII girl, was suspended pending an inquiry by the school education department. The girl later tried to commit suicide.
Police have arrested the teacher, D Muralikrishnan, 55, who taught at a government school
Police said the accused had been molesting the 13-year-old despite protests from the girl.
The girl told the police that the teacher also asked her to come to his house. The girl had complained to her parents about her ordeal, but they told her that the teacher was old enough to be her grandfather and hence he wouldn’t have any bad intentions.
When her parents did not take her complaint seriously, she decided to commit suicide, the police officer said.
On Saturday, she drank varnish. Her parents found her unconscious and rushed her to a hospital before lodging a complaint with the police.
