Tamil Nadu: No seat for teacher, 61, who cracked NEET

CHENNAI: A 61-year-old retired school teacher K Sivaprakasam from Dharmapuri cleared NEET-2021, applied for an MBBS seat under the government quota and was called for counselling.

But his application was turned down on Friday because he hadn't completed his schooling under the 10+2 system.

Selection committee secretary Dr P Vasanthamani said he had cleared the pre-university course (PUC), a sy stem that was later abolished.

With 249 marks in NEET, he stood 349th on the government quota list. “We included his name inthe rank list but sought opinion from higher officials and lawyers. Government quota is for students who have cleared 10+2. ,” an officer said.
