Tamil Nadu government warns employees against taking part in nation-wide strike

The Tamil Nadu government has issued a warning to its employees against taking part in the nation-wide strike on Monday and Tuesday. The application for ‘casual leave’ or any other leave other than ‘medical leave’ shall not be allowed on the days of the proposed strike.

If any government servant has not attended office, consequent of his/her participation in the proposed all-India strike on March 28 and 29 announced by certain the Central Trade Unions, their period of absence has to be considered as unauthorized, a communication from the Chief Secretary to the department heads said.

They would not be entitled to the pay and allowances on the basis of the principle of ‘No Work-No Pay’ as per the instructions issued by the State government. It said information has been received that the members of an unrecognised service association in the State have decided to participate in the proposed nation-wide strike pressing for various demands.

Strike or threat of strike or participation by government servants in the strike or demonstration or any other form of agitation that affects the normal functioning of government offices amounted to the violation of Rules 20, 22 and 22A of the Tamil Nadu Government Servants’ Conduct Rules, 1973, it said.
