COIMBATORE: District collector Dr G S Sameeran inspected the school buses on the Police Recruit School grounds in the city on Friday to ensure their compliance with the safety and regulatory norms. Nearly 1,265 school buses were brought by 230 private schools for the annual inspection drive.
The collector has directed the officials to display emergency sign boards, which were in English and Hindi, in Tamil. He said the drivers had to go for periodic eye check-up and licence renewal on time.
Addressing the reporters, N Mathivanan, deputy police commissioner (traffic), said the school buses had to follow all the safety norms round-the-clock. He said strict action would be taken against the school management, if the safety norms were compromised.
After the inspection drive, the regional transport office, Coimbatore central, organized a road safety awareness programme to sensitize the drivers and caretakers of the school buses on regulatory norms.
