Tam Cowan apologises to Marvin Bartley live on BBC amid 'bully' accusation

Tam Cowan has apologised to Marvin Bartley live on radio after the Livingston assistant manager accused the BBC host of "bullying".

This week, a spat involving the pair came to a head regarding allegations of racism in a Premiership match involving Dundee United and Hibs back in October.

At the time of the game, Bartley, who is also an advisor to the SFA's equalities and diversity advisory board, publicly stated that he was certain of a racist shout aimed towards Hibs player Jair Taveres.

Both sides launched an investigation into the matter, and initially found that the shout was inconclusive but felt "the likelihood is the comment was derogatory rather than racial".

In aftermath of this update, Cowan invited vocal Bartley on to his show, Off the Ball, to say sorry for what he branded a "proper cock-up."

This week it was announced by Hibs that after an independent expert reviewed the audio clips of the situation, that comment that came from the stands was indeed racial.

In light of this, Bartley hit back at Cowan, accusing him of bullying.

Cowan said on BBC this lunchtime: "Hibs have now clarified that there was indeed a racist comment at their game against Dundee United in October.

"This of course is new information and if I had known this from the outset I would have been the first to call it out personally and on national radio.

"It is absolutely abhorrent this happens inside Scottish football grounds and I hope the culprit is now dealt with appropriately.

"In light of this new evidence I apologise to everyone - including Marvin Bartley - for the upset caused."
