Tam Courts set for Dundee United shock exit as boss opens talks with Croatian side Rijeka

Dundee United have given Rijeka permission to open talks with head coach Tam Courts after contacting the Tannadice club over the past 24 hours.

The Croatian top-flight side are now in discussions with the young boss, who led United into the top four and back into European football in his first season in charge.

If Courts can strike terms then it will be up to the two clubs to sort out a compensation package.

It would take a significant six-figure move for Dundee United to let their manager move on.

United sporting director Tony Asghar took a chance on Courts by appointing him as Micky Mellon’s successor at the start of the season.

The 40-year-old was promoted from within the United academy to the top job but the appointment has come up trumps.

Courts has already had interest from England this summer and the Croats have been impressed with the success he has had at the Scottish Premiership side while also bringing young players through.

United have sold the likes of Kerr Smith, Jeando Fuchs, Jamie Robson and Lawrence Shankland for decent sums over the past campaign.

Rijeka have been looking for a new boss since caretaker Goran Tomic took the helm to the end of last season, when the finished fourth.
