Tam Courts insists Dundee United are in charge of their own fate after a draw with Aberdeen moved them into fourth spot.
The Tangerines are in an intriguing battle for the top six with seven clubs all battling for the three spots behind Celtic, Rangers and Hearts.
Currently it's United who lead the pack though they have played a game more than Hibs, who face Rangers on Sunday.
A 1-1 draw at Pittodrie was enough to take fourth for now though and Courts said: “It's probably testament to how far we've come that we leave here a little bit disappointed. Three points are very valuable at this stage of the season.
“Points on the basis of taking everything into consideration are probably worthy of acceptance as well. That's only one defeat in nine games so it tells you that the boys are spirited, are together, can find solutions at an important stage of the season. If we can win at Livingston on Wednesday it will be really good points for us.
“It's difficult to say but I do have an idea of how many points it will take (to reach the top six) and what affects that is the form of other teams.
“The teams that are in form are Celtic, Rangers and St Mirren who are sitting third in the six-game form guide. Livingston will be quite high up. There's teams that are performing well at an interesting stage of the season.
“The good thing from our perspective is that we've got really exciting games coming up.
“We are in control of our own destiny and I think at this stage of the season that's all you can ask for.”
Courts was disappointed that his side surrendered their lead and had to settle for a share of the spoils. Marc McNulty scored his first league goal of the season from the penalty spot but Matty Kennedy’s equaliser meant it ended 1-1 in front of the watching Sir Alex Ferguson.
He added: “I feel a little bit disappointed. With the way the game unfolded, we were very aggressive from the outset and got our noses in front. From then, I really expected us to press home that advantage.
“But we didn’t really capitalise. We were quite bitty and didn’t have a lot of retention high up the pitch, which affected our momentum and control. When Aberdeen got back into the game it probably descended into something we didn’t want it to be.
“Equally, it’s a hard fought point and it puts us in fourth."
