Tam Courts said he “can’t really recall too many penalty incidents” as he insisted his dogged Dundee United side deserved a point against Rangers at Tannadice.
The champions had two spot kick appeals turned down with Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitting VAR would have made a difference.
But Courts swatted away questions on the controversial moments with United scorer Ross Graham accused of handball before his headed opener and the defender also appearing to tug Fashion Sakala’s jersey in the box.
When asked after the game by Sky Sports, Courts said: “There’s that much to take in after the game that I can’t really recall too many penalty incidents.
“But I do recall them having a lot of sustained pressure and peppering our goal at times but you need a stroke of luck against the top teams and I thought our goalkeeper and defensive unit were outstanding.
“I don’t think anyone outwith maybe the Rangers camp would deny us the point today.
“We’ve got to be happy with a point and it was a strong first half. Rangers made a couple of tactical alterations and had a lot of the ball.
“There seemed to be a lot of activity in our box but the boys were really resolute and defended our box really well and I think a draw was probably a fair result in the end.
“It’s very difficult because when you come up against these type of teams there’s a lot of concentration required and I’m really proud of the effort, togetherness, team spirit and little moments of quality.”
Defender Graham netted on his 21st birthday on an eventful day and Courts hailed the stopper only returned last month from a difficult loan spell at Dunfermline.
Courts said: “If you look at left-sided defenders they don’t grow on trees and aren’t readily available so to have one we manufactured since a very young age, and he’s also a Dundee United supporter, is great.
“He’s perfect for Premiership football and big matches because he’s got a very good temperament and is composed under pressure.
“There’s a lot of stressful situations for defenders in these games but he showed a real maturity and having watched the goal back a real desire to make a difference and it was a big moment for him on his 21st birthday.”
