TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy hopes Newcastle United win nothing with 'Poor Newcastle' claim

TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy has revealed he hopes Newcastle United "win nothing" after the Magpies booked their place in the upcoming Carabao Cup final. Newcastle head to Wembley at the end of February to face off against Manchester United after beating Southampton 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.

While they have played at the new Wembley against Tottenham Hotspur when Spurs used the stadium as their home between 2017 and 2019, this will be the first time Newcastle have played in a showcase final at the rebuilt ground.

Newcastle fans will remember it was 1999 when they last played in a domestic final at the old Wembley, which saw them beaten 2-0 by Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Just a year on from last seasons relegation scrap, spirits are at an all-time high on Tyneside. However, one pundit who wants nothing more than to see those celebrations dampened is former Chelsea defender Cundy.

Taking to the airwaves on talkSPORT, the 53-year-old told co-host Jamie O'Hara that he "would like to see Newcastle win nothing" in the immediate aftermath of the Magpies booking their place at Wembley.

While O'Hara tried in vain to convince Cundy Newcastle winning the Carabao Cup would be great for the Toon Army, the former Chelsea player was not in the mood to entertain any idea the Magpies could pick up domestic silverware later this month.

Read the full transcript of Cundy and O'Hara's discussion below...

Jason Cundy: "I'd like to see Man United win it, personally.

Jamie O'Hara: "What? What?!"

JC: "I'd rather Manchester United win it

JO'H: "Why?"

JC: "Because Newcastle are a threat and you've got to try and keep them down for as long as you can.

JO'H: "But Manchester United are a threat...they're always a threat? They're one of the biggest clubs in the world. Look at Newcastle, they've won nothing Jase.

JC: "I couldn't care less [that Newcastle have not won a trophy since 196], they couldn't care less about Chelsea so I couldn't care less about them. But given the choice, I would rather Manchester United win it because Man United have won it. I would like to see Newcastle win nothing.

JO'H: "That's outrageous, how can you say that. Newcastle, look at the fans up there at the moment, look at the trouble they've gone through with the previous owner.

JC: "They're a threat. I couldn't care less about the fans. Where's the violins when you need them Poor Newcastle, it's not my fault."
