Did somebody say just eat… a bit less? Deliveroo says the average order placed by its customers is 3% smaller than it was. Rival takeaway app Just Eat reported similar customer behaviour a week ago.
Deliveroo boss Will Shu told the Standard: “People are [still] ordering but they might order a cheaper item on the menu or maybe not order any drinks.”
The average takeaway order placed on Deliveroo is £22.10, according to the company’s latest figures. Still a treat but not quite the price of going out, where food sales are said to have “slumped” and a pint of beer in London can cost up to £8.
The cost of living crisis is leaving everyone with less disposable cash to spend on the things they enjoy, as the latest alarming forecast has the average annual energy bill heading towards £4,200 by January.
