Talking Point: What do you think of the Sue Gray report findings?

Sue Gray’s report investigating alleged gatherings during Covid restrictions has been a long time coming, and today must have felt like the longest day of all for the Prime Minister.

The report was delivered to Downing Street at 10am. Boris Johnson said this is the first time he and his team have been shown the senior civil servant’s findings, and much of the content is “news to me”.

He has since faced MPs in Prime Minister’s Questions and journalists following his press conference this afternoon, where he had to answer to his personal failings, whether he is a liar, and should he resign.

He also had to respond to staff’s behaviour set out in the Gray report, which refers to ‘multiple examples of a lack of respect and poor treatment of security and cleaning staff’.

The report concluded that many gatherings investigated were not in line with Covid guidance of the time. It also included a series of photos showing Boris Johnson, Rishi Sunak and Cabinet Secretary Simon Case, with less senior people present blurred out.

The Prime Minister has insisted it is time for the country to “move on” from the partygate affair, but the contents of Sue Gray’s report – and how it is received – will determine whether he gets his wish.
