Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian brought out the crystal-stitched dress Marilyn Monroe famously wore to sing Happy Birthday, Mr. President to John F. Kennedy. With this throwback to 1962, you’d be forgiven for questioning whether the attendees are actually present here in 2022.
Amid an ongoing war, the growing economic squeeze, two years of a global pandemic, and devastating breaking news for millions of women in the US discovering their legal right to abortion could be about to be taken away, it would be understandable to not feel in the mood for opulent partying.
However, others may argue that this kind of spectacle is just what’s needed to bring some colour and an escape from the endless stream of gloom.
For the superstars in attendance, at least for one night, it’s clear the vibe was more gild than guilt.
