France 24’s Europe team invites you to look back on the most recent parliamentary season (which started in September 2021) and some of the key European decision-makers we’ve been scrutinising, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
From Russia’s military buildup and consequent invasion of Ukraine, to ensuing debates on how to support Ukrainians in terms of military aid and help for refugees, we’ve been holding those in charge to account, such as Deputy Secretary General of NATO Mircea Geoana and the Prime Ministers of Croatia and Slovakia.
We’ve also followed Finland and Sweden’s rapid bids to join the NATO military alliance, since before the applications were even made.
Away from the war, we kept a close eye on developments in the EU and the United Kingdom’s post-Brexit relations. We also grilled the EU Commissioner for Migration on how the lack of a pan-EU migration policy is impacting EU-UK relations.
Lastly, France spent six months at the centre of the European stage, as the French government took on the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union – all while President Macron ran for re-election against some Eurosceptic and Europhobic opponents.
