Talented Lanarkshire entrepreneur is this week’s 'Say it With Flowers' recipient

The owner of a successful business in the heart of Motherwell is having to close up shop to make way for a new road.

Now she has been recognised for the large part she has played in the community with our Say it With Flowers' award.

Ashleigh Welsh, of the Stylista Institute for hair replacement in Motherwell, was nominated by her friend Gayle Loughery for her

Her thriving business has been in the town for 13 years, but now Ashleigh has been forced to close its doors to allow for development works.

The mum-of-three was given just four months notice to shut up shop on her unique hair replacement business by North Lanarkshire Council (NLC).

As a parting gift, the caring 37-year-old was nominated for the 'Say it With Flowers' award by Gayle for her "selfless dedication and work" with men, women and children who have suffered hair loss.

Wishaw resident Gayle told Lanarkshire Live : “I’ve known Ashleigh for about 18 years when we met at college.

“She is a great inspiration and helps women and children who have lost their hair due to health issues. She has such a good heart and is a very caring person.

“She has helped so many men, women and children with hair loss issues over the years and has developed her own range of hair, as well as being a fantastic hair stylist.

“She primarily deals with women who have suffered hair loss for a variety of reasons and she helps them by providing wigs and hair pieces.

“The work that she has done over many years has been brilliant and she will be greatly missed.

"It’s going to be a big loss to the North Lanarkshire community when she closes.”

Ashleigh will close her business in June this year after having been told by the council that her building is to be demolished to make way for a new dual carriageway between Motherwell and Newhouse.

That has left her devastated, coming to the difficult decision to close her thriving business after being back open just a few months because of COVID-19 restrictions.

Originally from Dundee, Ashleigh now lives in Netherton with her husband Craig and three children, Aylee, Jaxon and Edden.

And when Gayle told us about Ashleigh, we were only too pleased to be able to help, surprising her with this stunning floral arrangement, courtesy of our friends at Pixies Petals in Newmains.

And on receiving the flowers a delighted Ashleigh told us: “I’m quite shocked; it’s really nice of Gayle to even think of me.

“I would like to thank Gayle for nominating me and to the Wishaw Press for running the competition.”
