A talented teen karter from Alexandria is set to represent Scotland next month.
Vale of Leven Academy pupil Davie Kinney, 14, will travel to Warrington for the British Indoor Karting Championships on November 5.
It represents a superb achievement for Davie, who only started racing at ScotKart in Clydebank last summer.
Proud mum Katrina explained: “He was doing a lot of racing online on his Xbox where he had all the equipment.
“In June of last year I took him down to ScotKart and we put him in the cadet academy which they have at Clydebank. Straight away we noticed he had something. We saw him going up the leaderboard every week.
“The British Open Indoor Championships are held every year. They do timed qualifiers and then a race in Clydebank for the local event, which he won.
“He then went down to Stockton a couple of weeks ago and came in second place. He’s now one of only three drivers who will represent Scotland at the national series.”
And Katrina believes that Davie having autism and ADHD can work in his favour, with the sport giving him a focus.
She continued: “Davie has autism, but it lets him focus. Part of autism is that you are fully focused on things that you enjoy.”
However, with motorsport far from cheap, the family have launched a fundraiser to help with the cost of travelling south.
Katrina added: “It’ll cost a fair bit to get down. There’s an entrance fee first of all, then there’s accommodation.
“Any support would really be appreciated."
