Takeaway wars in Ballyfermot as son opens rival Chinese beside his dad's and uses almost identical name

A family are engaging in a takeaway war in Dublin as a son is set to open a restaurant beside his father's one, after the pair had a falling out.

The more than three-decade-old Lam's takeaway in Ballyfermot, run by owner Ken, will now be rivalled next door by a business bearing almost the same name, The Irish Sun reports.

Jonathan Lam, son of Ken, is set to open New Lam's after leaving his father's business last year over a pay rise dispute, despite having worked for his father from the age of eight.

Jonathan told the Irish Sun that he was fobbed off after looking for an increase to his pay for many years. He described the fallout as "the straw that broke the camel's back" however he added that he still loves his dad.

Jonathan stressed that he has a "family to feed."

He also disclosed that opening a new rival business is not an "act of revenge." His father Ken is also preparing to open a new sit-in eatery further down from the two businesses.

Speaking to the publication, father Ken stated that his son's "dignity is gone" and questioned why it was necessary for him to open a business directly beside his.

The father said that it is awkward and stated that he is on the cusp of retirement age anyway.

New Lam's, located in Ballyfermot, is due to open in approximately two weeks' time.
