All it took was a passing mention of Grand Theft Auto 6’s existence from Rockstar to send everyone into a fit on Friday. Anyone hoping for more in-depth details may want to avoid staring at the clock, though.
In an interview with IGN, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explains that the ball is in Rockstar’s court regarding the follow-up to GTA 5.
“Obviously people need to stay tuned, a lot more information to be shared and Rockstar will do so in time,” Zelnick said.
That statement (unfortunately) doesn’t tell us much, but it’s no surprise that Zelnick is leaving everything up to Rockstar. Before the GTA 5 re-release drops for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S next month, Take-Two announced that the game surpassed 160 million units and reached $1 billion in retail sales faster than any release in entertainment history.
From Take-Two's latest earnings report, the GTA Series has sold over 370 million units, with #GTAV selling over 160M, and announced to have reached $1B in sales faster than any entertainment release in history!

As you might imagine, replicating GTA 5’s success will be an arduous task for Rockstar. However, Zelnick believes it’s possible.
“Each iteration for all of our successful franchises at this company, all of them, has always done better than the one before,” Zelnick said via IGN. “I’m not saying that’ll happen again, I’m not saying that’s guaranteed, but that’s certainly our goal.”
Yeah, raking in another billion dollars is probably the goal of every big company. It makes those Zynga purchases much more manageable, I imagine.
