Blackwater Castle in Castletownroche, Co Cork, is one of the most expensive and exclusive Airbnb listings in Ireland. With a pricetag of €3,500 per night, a stay at this stunning 12th Century Medieval Castle is definitely a luxurious experience.
The North Cork castle comes with 9 bedrooms, full kitchen and its own private bar. As an acting Lord or Lady of Blackwater Castle, you will have full range of 50 acres of wooded estate, a private river and get the chance to hoist your own flag on the 15th century tower.
While Blackwater castle is popular for private weddings and events - it can also be rented through Airbnb for a very special self-catering holiday.
Up to 16 holidaymakers can make use of the six reception rooms, embark on historical tours and enjoy activities on the estate grounds and private stretch of the River Awbeg.
The castle is under the Nordstrom Family Trust - with Patrick Nordstrom and his wife Shelia now managing the castle and letting it out as Airbnb hosts.
This stunning spot has witnessed 10,000 years of history dating back to Mesolithic period. The castle was once the home of the Viscount of Fermoy and Lords of the Barony of Fermoy.
The Castle was first built in the twelfth century on the site of the 2,500 year-old Dun Cruadha fort. Visitors through the centuries include Early Mesolithic hunter-gatherers, Druids, Chieftains, Strongbow’s Men at Arms, Sir Walter Raleigh, and King of Pop Michael Jackson, who stayed for three weeks in 2006.
President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins has described the castle as a “beautiful place” set in “a majestic and pastoral environment”.
To privately rent out the castle it is €3,500 per night so a weekend stay will set you back €7,000 - not including the €1,216 service fee.
If 16 people are staying at the castle, it works out to be similar or cheaper than many 5-star hotels across Cork, at around €219 per person, per night.
