Included in Kawasaki’s roster of refreshed models for the 2024 model-year are its popular adventure and dual-sport series in the form of the Versys lineup, as well as the rugged and dependable KLR 650 range. For 2024, Team Green has retained the bikes’ performance features and underpinnings, but has given them mild updates in styling and design. Let’s take a closer look at each one.
Kicking things off with the Versys-X 300, this model is the smallest of Kawasaki’s adventurers in the North American market, and is powered by the same 296cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine found in the now-discontinued Ninja 300. The Versys-X 300 keeps things simple and functional with a low saddle height ensuring accessibility to a wide range of riders, a tall windscreen for wind protection on the highway, and a practical luggage rack at the back. It’s offered in Pearl Matte Sage Green / Metallic Matte Carbon Gray, and is priced at $6,199.
Meanwhile, for those looking to embark on mostly road-focused adventures, the Versys 650 LT is making a comeback in 2024, and retains all of the tried and tested features we have come to love in its predecessors. It gets a Ninja-derived 649cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, parallel-twin engine and the unmistakable Versys facia that looks like a Ninja on stilts.
Like before, it rolls on 17-inch wheels shod in road-focused tires, and gets an upright seating position with a tall windscreen. The Versys 650 LT comes out of the factory with Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC), a full-color display with smartphone connectivity, and full-LED lighting. It’s offered in Metallic Matte Dark Gray / Ebony, and is priced at $10,099
Up next, for those with a fondness for exploring beyond the confines of the pavement, the KLR range is just for you. The KLR650 made a comeback in 2022 after a long hiatus. As it would turn out, there’s a place in the market for a barebones, rugged adventurer, and it looks to remain that way for the 2024 model-year. Like before, the bike is powered by a 652cc, single-cylinder engine housed in a durable high-tensile steel cradle frame. The base version misses out on any electronics whatsoever, save for optional ABS, and carries an MSRP of $6,899 and $7,199 with ABS.
For shorter riders or folks who just want to have a firmer reach to the ground, the KLR 650 S provides exactly that. Kawasaki has lowered the bike’s suspension to provide a lower seat height, albeit by sacrificing some ground clearance. Carrying the same retail pricing as the standard KLR 650, the 650 S is also offered with optional ABS.
Last but not least, the KLR 650 Adventure is decked out in a variety of accessories that are sure to please ardent explorers. It gets increased carrying capacity with pre-installed side cases, increased visibility with LED auxiliary lights, added protection in the form of engine guards, and convenient amenities like a DC power outlet and USB socket. It also comes standard with ABS for added on-road safety. It’s offered in Pearl Matte Sage Green and Metallic Matte Twilight Blue, and carries a price tag of $8,199.
