Eight Tamashimaya department stores will resume operations of their clothing and other daily necessities sales sections on Monday in Tokyo, Osaka and other prefectures, Takashimaya Co. announced Saturday.
Takashimaya has limited its stores' operations in principle to the food sales sections amid the spread of the new coronavirus outbreak.
The eight stores include the Nihonbashi and Shinjuku stores in Tokyo, the Yokohama store and the Osaka store. The company says that reopening these sections is not only to satisfy customer demand, but also to protect the jobs of its employees and trading partners. Since all the stores are in areas where a state of emergency has not been lifted, they will shorten operation hours and implement thorough measures to prevent infections, such as alcohol disinfection and restricting entry to stores when they are crowded.
Takashimaya has already resumed full-scale operations at its Takasaki store in Gunma Prefecture and Okayama store. On Thursday, it expanded sales areas at three stores, including the Tamagawa store in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo.
