Taco Bell Tries a New Way To Serve Some Beloved Classics

Taco Bell has seen big improvements in breakfast sales since simplifying its morning menu and hiring Pete Davidson to promote that. The chain dropped some items and used Davidson in some mildly funny commercials to promote its core Breakfast Crunch Wrap offering.

Building its breakfast business has been a focus for the chain since the impact of the covid pandemic began to fade and normal customer patterns returned. Yum Brands (YUM) CEO David Gibbs talked about those changes during his company's fourth-quarter earnings call

"We also made encouraging progress in our breakfast layer, building on high-profile branding partnerships such as Doja Cat in Q1 and Davante Adams in Q3, Taco Bell brought in Pete Davidson to help drive consumer buzz for breakfast. This led to 9% transaction growth for the day part," he shared.

Now, Taco Bell plans a very unique breakfast offering in partnership with a beloved Los Angeles-area bakery/food truck.

Taco Bell Tries Experimental Menu

While the Yeastie Boys may not be known nationally, the food truck brand has been a sensation in the Los Angeles area. Both its name and its menu serve as homages to two East Coast legends, the Beastie Boys and the bagel.

Yeastie Boys offers a classic bagel menu with a few unique twists. You can order a "Lox Deluxe," which has smoked salmon, house-made scallion schmear (cream cheese), tomato, red onion, and capers on a hand-rolled sesame bagel. Or, you could try something more novel like "The Mishka," with vegan roasted bell pepper spread, tomato, red onion, and sprouts on a hand-rolled everything bagel.

Now, the Yeastie Boys are teaming up with Taco Bell for a special menu that will be available across Los Angeles at special cobranded food trucks from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, March 24 through Sunday, March 26, 2023.

Here's What's On Taco Bell's Special Breakfast Menu

"The distinctly curated six-item menu takes Taco Bell’s unique flavors and combines them with Yeastie Boys’ signature spreads and freshly-baked bagels," Taco Bell shared in a press release. The menu will actually be served free of charge, but people are limited to one item per customer.

Here's a look at what Taco Bell and the Yeastie Boys will be serving up:

  • Game Over Breakfast Crunchwrap: Fresh scrambled eggs, bacon, crispy hash brown, Yeastie Boys’ signature cheddar-jalapeño cream cheese and melted cheddar
  • Cheddy Melt Breakfast Burrito: Fresh scrambled eggs, double smoked bacon, melty cheese and crispy hash brown served with a side of breakfast salsa
  • Everything Breakfast Quesadilla: Fresh scrambled eggs, double smoked bacon, scallion cream cheese, melty three-cheese blend, Taco Bell x Yeastie Boys Everything Seasoning and toasted cheddar on the outside
  • Cinnamon Twist Bagel Sando: Toasted bagel with Mexican-spiced cream cheese and Cinnamon Twists
  • Grilled Cheese Bagel Sando (Classic or Fire!):
    • Classic: Choice of bagel, over-easy egg, bacon, jalapeño-Everything aioli with grilled cheese on the outside
    • Fire!: Choice of bagel, over-easy egg, bacon, Fire!-Everything aioli with grilled cheese and jalapeño on the outside
  • Bell Bagel & Saucy Schmear: Toasted bagel, choice of Mild! Hot! or Fire! cream cheese and choice to add Taco Bell x Yeastie Boys Everything Seasoning Vegan Fire! cream cheese spread available.

And, while this is a very-limited experiment, it's possible that Taco Bell could bring some aspects of this limited-time menu to its morning offering. Adding bagels, while not traditionally Mexican, would not be outside what Taco Bell has done in the past when it comes to broadening its menu with high-appeal items.

“The most important element that we bring to all of our brand partnerships is collaboration,” Taco Bell’s Executive Chef Rene Pisciotti said. “We’ve worked hard to fuse our classic breakfast flavors that fans love with Yeastie Boys’ distinctive take on breakfast."
