Taco Bell Deal Gives Customers Major Menu Choices

Yum! Brands' (YUM)  Taco Belldoes things a bit differently than other fast-food restaurants and it's at it again changing its menu. Taco Bell is bringing a new twist on something the competition just hasn’t or won’t consider.

One of Taco Bell’s biggest fast-food competitors is McDonalds, which brings back a few favorite items to its menu on a regular basis but doesn’t waiver too far from its core menu offerings. McDonald’s will regularly bring back menu items like the fan favorite classics the Shamrock Shake and the McRib.

Both McDonald’s and Taco Bell use combo orders to make ordering quick and easy for customers and for fast-food employees taking and making orders. Taco Bell keeps its menu changing and most recently it ran a poll to let fans vote to see which discontinued menu item would make its return between the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos or the Beefy Crunch Burrito. The fans voted and the Beefy Crunch Burrito makes a return to the menu.

Taco Bell Customers Get to Customize

Taco Bell is adding a new twist to an old favorite to see if customers will bite. Back in 2021 Taco Bell first offered a $5 Build Your Own Cravings Box, which allowed customers that took part in the Taco Bell Rewards Beta app to order the box. The $5 Build Your Own Cravings Box let customers choose which items went in their boxes.

The choice of signature items included the Chalupa Supreme, Cheesy Gordita Crunch or Crunchwrap, starter items like Crunchy Taco, Beefy 5-Layer Burrito or Bean and Cheese Burrito, sides like Chips & Nacho Cheese Sauce or Cinnamon Twists and a medium drink.

Now, the all-new Taco Bell Deluxe Build Your Own Cravings Box is here. The new twist on the old combo allows customers to have a little more variety in their order. The Deluxe Build Your Own Cravings Box lets customers order a specialty item such as a grilled cheese burrito, Doritos cheesy gordita crunch, a steak chalupa supreme, or a burrito supreme. Then customers can add two classic items from a beefy melt burrito, a beefy 5-layer burrito, or a bean burrito. Customers can also upgrade an item to get a Doritos Locos Taco or a crunchy or soft Taco Supreme for an upcharge. Then customers can add a side like the Chips & Nacho Cheese Sauce or Cinnamon Twists and complete the meal with a drink.

Taco Bell didn’t pull the original Build Your Own Cravings Box to make room on its menu for the new deluxe version, but the original $5 Build Your Own Cravings Box is actually $5.99 now. The new Deluxe Build Your Own Cravings Box starts at $8.99 and with upgrades and customer customization, the price can go up from there. The specialty selection can be upgraded to a Burrito Supreme with chicken for only 80 cents, steak for $1 and classic menu upgraded to either a Doritos Locos Taco or a crunchy or soft Taco Supreme for 50 cents. Customers can upgrade their drinks too. They can order an Iced or Hot Cinnabon Delights Coffee for an additional 10 cents or can upgrade to a large fountain drink over the medium for only 10 cents.

Taco Bell Menu Changes Never Stop

Taco Bell also removed a fan favorite from its menu, and maybe customers won’t make such a fuss with the return of the Beefy Crunch Burrito and the addition of the new Deluxe Build Your Own Cravings Box. The Quesarito came off the menu officially April 19. To fill the void, other favorites were brought back to the menu -- the Bacon Club Chalupa and the Double Steak Grilled Cheese Burrito.

While Taco Bell is busy changing its menu, it is also testing the a Double Stacked Taco item in the Birmingham, Ala. market. It is a hard-shell taco served with seasoned beef, lettuce, cheese, surrounded with cheese sauce and covered up with a soft-shell taco, giving it the name Double Stacked Taco. In the test market, it is being sold for $2 with one of two sauces, Sweet Scorpion or Chipotle cheese sauce or served as a Nacho Crunch topped with Fiesta Strips.
