System Shock remake is probably coming out in March 2023

The long-awaited remake of System Shock might finally have a release window.

As spotted by industry insider Wario 64, the Steam page for Nightdive Studios’ System Shock remake now states that it’ll come out in March 2023, and pre-orders are open. There wasn’t any actual launch information on the listing before this update, so it’s a good sign that an exact release date isn’t far off – here’s to hoping, anyway.

As of this post, Nightdive Studios hasn’t publicly made an announcement. So there’s no official confirmation yet, but the developers might just be waiting for something more concrete before announcing anything.

The System Shock remake began as a Kickstarter project in 2016 and was initially slated for a release sometime in 2017. Since then, the project has already been delayed several times – no doubt because Nightdive Studios wants to do the original justice. This game inspired BioShock, Alien: Isolation, Prey, and every other Sci-Fi horror immersive sim ever, so it deserves that extra development time.

GLHF went hands-on with it back at Gamescom 2022 and came away rather impressed. It seems to retain the foreboding atmosphere System Shock excels at while updating certain aspects like combat and puzzles for a modern audience.
