SYS Introduces the H-BEAM “Green Steel Series”, Thailand’s First Eco-Friendly Steel, to lead the Green Ecosystem Trend in the Green Construction Industry
Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd. (SYS), a manufacturer of section steel products for nearly 30 years, is introducing its “Green Steel Series” – The first environmentally friendly section steel product in Thailand for environmentally conscious customers in the construction industry.
Mr. Pongsak Haelom, the Marketing Manager of SYS, says that, as Thailand’s leading structural steel manufacturer, SYS is committed to caring for the environment to fulfill its social responsibility as well as product quality. SYS has continued to develop a wide range of products to meet the needs of the construction industry. In recent years, eco-friendly construction has increasingly attracted much attention in response to the BCG Economic Model promoted by the Thai Government and other countries around world as a sustainable strategy to drive future national economic and social development.
Recently, SYS reinforced its commitment to providing more green solutions for the construction industry with the launch of its “Green Steel Series” products, which are Thailand’s first eco-friendly section steel products manufactured with the use of recycled raw materials and eco-friendly production processes. SYS has delivered the first lot of Green Steel Series products (227MT of H-Beams) to the first client, STP & I Public Company Limited (STP & I), along with Mitsui & Co., (Thailand) Ltd.’s “Scope 2 Carbon Neutral” solution, which utilizes the renewable energy sources from Mitsui’s own business assets.
Mr. Thammanoon Narind, Chonburi Plant Manager and GPX Project Manager of STP & I, asserts that STP & I has a policy of protecting the environment and is determined to make its contribution to the transformation of the Thai Construction industry into a greener industry. SYS’s Green Steel Series H-Beams not only satisfy the needs of STP & I’s various construction projects through the supply of eco-friendly steel construction materials, but they will also augment STP & I’s reputation for providing high-quality fabricated structural steel products for ‘safety first’ construction work. The first lot of SYS’s H-Beams will be used for the Golden Pass LNG Project in the USA.
Mr. Takeo Kato, President, Mitsui & Co., (Thailand) Ltd. (Mitsui), affirms that Mitsui, as the first Japanese trading firm to declare a “Net-Zero Emissions by 2050” policy, has been proactively striving to play a crucial role in advocating the use of renewable energy in Thailand. The company is striving to build a green ecosystem and create an eco-friendly society in Thailand and other countries by offering various energy solutions, one of which is the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) that provides proof of the amount of electricity generated by renewable energy sources in units of megawatts per hour (MWh) in contrast to electricity generated from fossil energy sources. I-REC aims to promote investment in, and usage of, renewable energy for more environmentally friendly purposes while simultaneously helping to reduce consumption of natural resources.
Mitsui has been working closely with SYS as a business partner to support SYS’s development of the Green Steel Series, and has offered to apply the above I-REC certification by utilizing renewable energy produced by its own business assets to assist both STP&I and SYS. For the first lot of SYS’s H-Beams supplied to STP&I, Mitsui has issued I-REC certification to offset the emissions generated by the fossil-fuel based electricity used to produce the beams. Mitsui has utilized the energy attributes produced at its invested biomass power plant for this transaction, to satisfy the market’s and society’s growing need for lower carbon-embodied steel products.
Mr. Pongsak: “The government of Thailand as well as other countries around the world have attached great importance to reducing greenhouse gas emissions to zero. SYS is proud to be a part of this effort to help the construction industry implement green construction projects, from building basic structures to final completion. I believe that if all operators in the industry switch to eco-friendly materials, we can definitely create a green ecosystem and transform the construction sector into a green industry.”
