Following the recent departure of Bashar al Assad from Syria, citizens across the country have come together to celebrate the end of his regime. The first Friday since Assad's exit saw thousands of people gathering in various cities to mark this significant moment in their nation's history.
In Damascus, Homs, Aleppo, and Hama, where opposition forces have gained control in the past weeks, crowds congregated after Friday prayers to express their joy and relief. Friday, a holy day for Muslims, provided the perfect backdrop for communal worship, as well as for protests and celebrations following the noon prayer.
Not only in the major cities but also in Suwayda in the south and Idlib in the north, where the movement to overthrow Assad originated, people took to the streets in jubilation. The leader of the forces responsible for toppling the regime, Mohammad al Jolani, released a video statement urging the Syrian people to celebrate peacefully and avoid any actions that could instill fear.
Jolani emphasized the need to focus on rebuilding the country now that the regime has fallen, calling on the citizens to come together in unity. He expressed gratitude to the people for their support and credited the victory to the help of God.
