A Syrian refugee who fled the country during unrest there and settled in Enniskillen is set to open a new ice cream shop in the town
Mohamad Al Shaoa, 20, was uprooted along with his family in 2012, living in Egypt and Lebanon before moving to Co Fermanagh in 2019.
Now Mohamad is set to move into Belmore Street in the town with his business venture, Tasty. It aims to showcase some of his favourite desserts from his home region as well as some local classics as well.

Speaking to MyFermanagh, Mohamad said life had not been easy since he left his home country, but he and his family were delighted by the welcome they received here.
“I am originally from Syria and I came to Northern Ireland in 2019,” Mohamad said.
“I left Syria with my family in 2012 and went to Egypt, and then in 2013 moved to Lebanon. When I was in Lebanon I was unable to study, life was very hard.
“We came here through the Red Cross who chose us from among the many Syrian families in Lebanon. We came straight to Fermanagh from Lebanon in 2019.
“Life in Fermanagh is very different from life in Syria but I like it here. Many people have been very friendly and helpful to me and my family, and we are grateful for the support we received.”
Launching a business at the age of 20 would be a daunting prospect for many, but Mohamad says he is looking forward to the challenge. The new shop will open on 23 August.
“My new business is called 'Tasty' and it is at 46 Belmore Street in Enniskillen. I wanted to open a business which offered some of the greatest treats from my country,” Mohamad added.
“I will offer Arabic Ice Cream and ice cream rolls and also crepes, waffles, juices and smoothies. Opening this business is an exciting opportunity for me and I am looking forward to introducing the people of Fermanagh to some very 'Tasty' treats.
“It has not been an easy journey but I hope it will be a worthwhile one. I will do my best to provide the best quality service and treats and I hope it will be successful.”
