Syrian rebels have initiated a significant move by calling on the Assad regime's security forces to register with what they have termed as a 'settlement center.' The Military Operations Command, a rebel coalition comprising Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), recently announced the establishment of a 'settlement center for members of the criminal regime in Homs.'
The rebels' statement emphasized that all Assad regime forces must visit the center to complete settlement procedures and obtain a temporary ID before Saturday, December 14, 2024. Former regime members are required to bring all necessary documents, regime-issued equipment, and official belongings to avoid prosecution for providing false or incomplete information.
In a separate development, the rebels issued a general amnesty for conscripted soldiers in the Syrian military, ensuring their safety and prohibiting any harm against them. However, it is important to note that this amnesty does not extend to officers and soldiers who volunteered to serve.
The armed rebel alliance made significant advances across Syria over an 11-day period, swiftly capturing major cities before ultimately seizing control of the capital, Damascus, over the weekend.
