The leader of the forces that ousted Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad has reassured foreign governments that Syria is on a path towards stability and reconstruction, following the removal of the regime. Mohammad al-Jolani, leader of the main Islamist group in the coalition that overthrew the regime, emphasized that the country is not ready for another war.
Speaking to reporters in Damascus, Jolani stated that the fear that foreign governments had was primarily due to the presence of the Assad regime, which has now been eliminated. He highlighted that Syria is now focused on development and rebuilding efforts.
Jolani pointed out that the Syrian people are weary from years of conflict and that the country is not in a position to engage in another war. He attributed the previous fears to the actions of Iranian militias, Hezbollah, and the Assad regime, which were responsible for the atrocities witnessed in the country.
The reassurance from the opposition leader comes amidst concerns from foreign governments about the future of Syria following the regime change. Jolani’s statements aim to allay any apprehensions and convey that the country is moving towards a more stable and peaceful phase.
As Syria navigates the post-Assad era, the focus remains on rebuilding infrastructure, addressing humanitarian needs, and fostering stability. Jolani’s remarks underscore the commitment of the opposition forces to steer the country towards a new chapter of progress and development.
